FAQ’s

Do you teach academics?

We offer academics in an organic, child-led way. Rather than using standardized curricula or requiring worksheets and tests, we integrate reading, writing, math, science, and other academic concepts into daily life and real-life experiences. When children are motivated by genuine interest, academic learning becomes deep, meaningful, and lasting. Just as children learn to walk and talk at their own pace, we trust that academic learning unfolds best when it’s not forced. We’re here to support that kind of learning—not to push it.

Are there any assessments, testing or report cards?

We do not use standardized tests. Instead, we observe each child’s development, focusing on the whole child—social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Progress is shared with families through regular conversations, and snapshots of our daily learning experiences are shared on our class blog to keep you connected to your child’s journey.

What is self-directed learning?

Self-directed learning means children take the lead in their own education. Instead of adults deciding what, when, and how a child should learn, we create a safe, stimulating environment and trust the child’s innate curiosity to guide the way. We are here as facilitators—observing, listening, and offering support—while honouring each child’s unique timing, passions, and ways of engaging with the world.

How many children will be in my child's class?

We have a maximum of 14 children in the program at any one time, with an adult-to-child ratio of 1:7. Rather than traditional age-based classrooms, we offer a mixed-age environment where children of different ages learn and play together as one community. We believe mixed-age groups foster natural mentorship, collaboration, and empathy. Younger children learn by observing and interacting with older peers, while older children develop confidence, leadership, and a deeper understanding as they guide and support those younger than them. This kind of environment mirrors how children have learned for most of human history—through play, exploration, and connection across ages.

Is your program only for homeschooling families?

No. While our model is similar to homeschooling in its flexibility and child-led approach, we welcome all families seeking an alternative to traditional schooling. Whether you are a homeschooler, an unschooler, or simply looking for a more nurturing, freedom-based educational setting, our program is open to you.

Does my child need to bring supplies?

We provide most materials needed for the day, including art supplies, natural materials, and learning tools. That said, if your child has a favorite notebook, book, or comfort item, they are always welcome to bring it. We do recommend a few basics for personal comfort, listed below.
